Compliance & Care

Designed for clinical environments

Healthcare interiors demand more of their soft furnishings than anywhere else. Fabrics must resist pathogens, withstand aggressive laundering protocols, and comply with HTM (Health Technical Memorandum) guidance — whilst still creating spaces that feel calm and humane for patients.

We have supplied and installed window treatments into NHS acute trusts, private hospitals, care homes, and GP surgeries across Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London. Every installation is specified against the relevant HTM and IPC (Infection Prevention and Control) guidance in force at the time.

HTM & IPC Compliance

What the regulations require

Healthcare window treatments are governed by NHS Health Technical Memoranda and NHS Estates IPC guidance. Key requirements include:

Antimicrobial fabrics

Fabrics must demonstrate proven antimicrobial performance. We specify fabrics tested to ISO 20743 or treated with permanent biocide (not wash-off coatings). Options include inherently antimicrobial polyester weaves and copper-ion impregnated textiles.

Laundering at 71°C

NHS thermal disinfection protocols require curtains to withstand repeated washing at 71°C for 3 minutes (or equivalent chemical disinfection). We supply fabrics rated for a minimum of 100 wash cycles at this temperature without dimensional change or colour fade.

Track hygiene

Cubicle track must be smooth, non-porous, and wipeable with IPC-approved disinfectants. We install closed-top aluminium track systems with no dead-end channels where microorganisms can accumulate.

Fire performance

All fabrics must meet BS 5867 Part 2 Type B (curtains in healthcare) as a minimum. We can supply Type C for higher-risk environments. No post-treatment flame retardants — inherent performance only.

Glare & privacy control

Patient dignity requires effective privacy screening whilst maintaining adequate daylight. Roller blinds with openness factors of 3–5% deliver glare control and privacy without creating oppressive environments for bed-bound patients.

Planned replacement

IPC guidance recommends a rolling replacement programme. We provide asset registers, wash cycle logging recommendations, and scheduled replacement contracts to help estates teams maintain compliance records.
